RUSTY SCHLENK RACING! FAMILY AFFAIR

Dirt Track Racing: Welcome to the fast-paced, unexpected, unpredictable, competitive, exciting world of Dirt Track Racing. Racing can be all of these, but it is also a very unique and loving, caring family. I have been going to dirt tracks for over 30 years. First, I was a spectator, then pit crew, and finally, a driver.

There are hundreds of tracks around the USA. You can go to any one of them, and you will be surprised by the family you will find there.

THIS IS RACING

Don’t get me wrong, sure there are disagreements between drivers and fans, but you will not find a better bunch of people. Wreck or get a flat, and you will have a dozen people there to help you.

DIRT TRACK RACING IS A FAMILY AFFAIR

If you have a family emergency or death, there isn’t a better group of people to help you out.

How about a divorce. Your racing family will keep you going and boost you up.. I Love my racing family. I know without them and my kids, I would not have made it through my divorce.

KIDS RACING ON THE TRACK

No doubt you are going to get dirty at a dirt track. But the fun of watching the races and meeting new people is well worth it. Sometimes they even have fun for the kids.

My love of racing started when I was very young. My daddy was a mechanic, and he taught me how to work on cars. And I fell in love with the horsepower and the smell of oil and fuel. When the fairs came around, we always went to ride the bumper cars. In the past, you could bump and hit each other. To me, that was the highlight of my day, chasing my dad down and running into him with my bumper car.

In the ’80s, we found two dirt tracks that were close to us. We started going every week, and I was hooked. My husband at the time, not so much.

He had a friend who got into racing and had us be his pit crew. Boy, that was a blast. The first time I worked on his car at the track, did we ever get some looks. I had the hood off and was working on the car, and the driver was just sitting on the trailer reading a newspaper. Mouths were dropping, and eyes were popping, heads were turning. It was hilarious!!!

FAMILY AFFAIR

I was pregnant for my daughter the last year we worked on his car. At two months old she went to the races with me. She loved it. She has always been around racing, and she even met her fiance at the track.

After our first pit crew fun, he stopped racing, and I started going by myself. I hooked up with another guy who needed a pit crew, and I worked for him for nine years. At one point, I had five cars that I was helping out on every night.

Then one of the guys let me take his car out on the track, that was it, had to have one. Oh, how I Love Racing!! The speed, the wrecks, the adrenaline rush.. The best thing is I can take out my aggression on the track, so I am much calmer off.

BRAD WADE 2019 LATE MODEL

I raced for seven years and had so much fun, but then my money ran out. Now I crew on a late model, one of the guys I used to race with. I love what I do but would love to get back to driving.
