THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT DIVISIONS OF RACING BUT NOT EVERY TRACK HAS ALL DIVISIONS. NON THE LESS IT IS FUN TO WATCH.
At my home track “Oakshade Raceway” we have four divisions, with a fifth that races a couple times a year.
- LATE MODELS
- SPORTSMEN
- BOMBERS
- COMPACTS
COMPACT DIVISIONS OF RACING
The compacts are front-wheel-drive cars. When they first started at Oakshade, we only had a few. Now we have about 20. I believe these are the least expensive to get and maintain of all the divisions. But they can put on a heck of a show too! In this division, you can start your kids, or just get out there yourself.
BOMBER DIVISIONS OF RACING
The bombers are supposed to be a regular street car with racing modifications. Through the years, rules have changed, and not many of them look like streetcars anymore. The bombers are a lot of fun too. I ran in this class for a couple of years myself.
SPORTSMEN DIVISION
Coming up next is the Sportsmen Division. These cars are literally between a Late Model and Bomber. They, for sure, look like a Late Model. I also ran in this class for a few years. It doesn’t matter which class you decide to run in, they can all be costly, and fun too.
LATE MODEL DIVISION
Next in the lineup is our Late Models. These cars will cost you a considerable chunk of change. There are several different chassis to choose from, then, of course, your engine. There are several different manufacturers and builders of these. We are lucky to have a few engine builders at our track every week.
MODIFIED & SPRINT DIVISION
Oakshade also has Modifieds and Sprints cars for a couple of races. There are big races that pay a lot of money, which brings in drivers from all over the country. We have even had a few from Canada and Australia. The special races are for more than just one division, and that brings in more fans as well as more racers, which makes it suitable for the tracks, the racers, and the fans.
There are many more Divisions of Racing out there. But what I have here are from my home track. I will talk about the other divisions another time.
Regardless of where you race or what you race, it is fun, it is exhilarating, and it costs
Some of the drivers use their own money, and some have sponsors. (That is the writing you see all over the cars.) Many of the sponsors are local businesses, but you have some that get manufacturers of racing equipment to sponsor them. However, you look at it if your not enthusiastic and want to do it no matter what. You better not even try it.
